Here's what shipping to Nigeria costs with GBAS Worldwide: air freight from £4.80/kg, sea cargo from £2.80/kg, barrels from £120 and cars from £1,500 — collected across six English regions and delivered to all 36 states. No hidden destination charges.
Air freight rates (UK → Nigeria)
| What you choose | Rate per kg | Minimum | Transit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Collect from our Lagos office | £4.80 | 10 kg | 7 working days |
| Door delivery in Lagos | £5.50 | 10 kg | 7 working days |
| Door delivery, any other state | £6.00 | 25 kg | 7 working days |
Every air shipment flies into Lagos. From there you decide: the recipient collects from our Lagos office at £4.80/kg, or we deliver to their door — £5.50/kg in Lagos, £6.00/kg anywhere else in Nigeria. Collection from our office is the cheapest air rate on this corridor that we are aware of, and it suits anyone with family in Lagos who can pick up.
Sea freight rates
| Item | Price | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel — your own drum | £120 | 4–6 weeks |
| Barrel — we supply the drum | £170 | 4–6 weeks |
| Boxes and loose items, per kg | £2.80/kg, 50 kg minimum | 4–6 weeks |
| Groupage, per cubic metre | £320/CBM | 4–6 weeks |
Vehicle shipping rates
| Vehicle | Price | Priced on |
|---|---|---|
| Car | £1,500 – £2,000 | Length and width of the vehicle |
| SUV / 4x4 | £2,300 – £2,600 | Length and width of the vehicle |
| Van | £2,800 – £3,500 | Length and width of the vehicle |
Vehicles are priced on the space they occupy on the ship, so length and width are what move the number — not the value of the car. Import duty in Nigeria is assessed separately on arrival; estimate it here before you buy.
Full containers
20ft and 40ft containers to Tin Can Island and Apapa are quoted on request — routes, contents and current sailings all move the price too much to publish a useful number. Ask for a container quote with your load and destination and we'll price it properly. If you are not filling a container, our groupage service charges £320 per cubic metre instead.
What's included — and the fees explained
- Handling: £20 per air shipment, paid here. Sea shipments carry a ₦5,000 handling fee instead, paid in Nigeria on delivery.
- Collection: quoted by postcode across our six regions; drop-off is also available.
- Customs clearance in Nigeria: included in door-to-door service. Import duty on commercial goods and vehicles is set by Nigeria Customs — estimate it with our duty calculator.
- No hidden destination charges: the only thing paid at the Nigerian end is the ₦5,000 sea handling fee above — and you know about it now.
How to work out your cost
Air cargo is billed on chargeable weight — the higher of the scale weight and the volumetric weight (L × W × H cm ÷ 5,000). Use the Shipping Cost Estimator to compare air vs sea for what you're actually sending, then turn the estimate into a quote in one click.
Nigeria to UK rates
We price the reverse corridor to order — food, personal effects and documents from Nigeria to the UK by air or sea. See Nigeria to UK cargo or ask for a quote.
All rates are "from" prices — your exact quote depends on weight, service and destination, and we confirm it before anything is collected. Rates reviewed quarterly.

What is the cheapest way to ship to Nigeria?
Sea freight for anything heavy or bulky — barrels and boxes from £2.80/kg or £120 per barrel. Air is worth the premium for urgent or valuable items. Consolidating into one shipment and filling your barrel or box properly cuts the per-item cost further.
Does sea or air cost more?
Air costs more per kilo (£4.80/kg collected from our Lagos office, £5.50/kg delivered to a door in Lagos) but arrives in 7 working days. Sea costs less (from £2.80/kg) but takes 4–6 weeks. For a full barrel, sea is almost always the better value.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. Your quote includes the shipping rate, the handling fee and any collection charge — stated up front. Air cargo carries a £20 handling fee paid here; sea cargo carries a ₦5,000 handling fee paid in Nigeria on delivery instead. That is the only charge at the Nigerian end, and you know about it before you book.
How can I reduce my shipping cost?
Three ways: ship by sea instead of air where time allows, fill your barrel or box completely (you pay for the space either way), and combine several small parcels into one shipment to pay one handling fee instead of several.
How much does a barrel cost to ship?
£120 if the barrel is yours, £170 if we supply the drum as well — by sea, door to door, plus a ₦5,000 handling fee paid in Nigeria on delivery. Because per-kg sea never bills below its 50 kg minimum (£140), a barrel is the cheapest sea shipment we can take at any weight.
How much does it cost to ship a car?
Cars are £1,500–£2,000, SUVs £2,300–£2,600 and vans £2,800–£3,500, depending on the length and width of the vehicle. Clearing costs in Nigeria are separate and depend on the vehicle's value and age — estimate them with our import duty calculator.
Why is my billed weight higher than the scale weight?
Air cargo is billed on chargeable weight — the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight (L × W × H cm ÷ 5,000). A 10 kg minimum applies by air to Lagos (25 kg to other states) and 50 kg by sea — though a barrel is a flat £120 and undercuts the sea minimum, so for drum-shaped loads a barrel is cheaper. Our Shipping Cost Estimator shows your billed weight before you commit.
How do I pay for my shipment?
Directly with us, once your quote is agreed — never through this website. The agreed quote is the final price.
